1. 6300 lbs? Don’t these use aluminum body panels? They say it cut 200 lbs off the weight of the car, which means it was otherwise a 6500 lbs car. I think that would have made it the heaviest wagon you can buy (not commercial or heavy duty). Heavier than the LX570, Heavier than a yukon or Escalade XL (by a lot).

2. those running boards aren’t made by ford, they are 3rd party and you can get them for anything.

3. keypad entry? Welcome to 90's Ford Taurus

4. separate hatch glass? This is unique? GM does, Lexus does this (gx460).

The interior does look nice.

Thats all.

Ah the keypad. I always find it amusing when American auto companies hold on to old relics from the past.

One thing GM won’t let go of, but consumers won’t know about, is the oil life reset. I don’t know when they started it, but if you pump the gas pedal three times with the KOEO it will reset it. They kept this even after they went to a data centre interface thingy in the cluster, and I always found that stupid and amusing at the same time.

I wonder why Ford won’t let the keypad die, even on an Expedition Lincoln.

My cousin really likes the keypad thingy because apparently he normally just keeps the keys inside his Ford Fusion.

He keeps the keys inside.

I can see a few potential issues with that.

Even though I never thought I’d say it, keypad entry is really nice. We had it on my wife’s Explorer and it was really handy for those times when you either didn’t want to carry the keys with you (exercising comes to mind) or don’t have them with you or you managed to lock them inside the car.

no I’ve always liked it, its just hardly new or special. For me the idea of having access to my vehicle in a remote place is perfect. I would rather keep a spare key inside the vehicle and keypad in if I had to them do what I do now, which is hang a spare on the outside.

Jaguar and Land Rover do something similar, suposedly you can leave your luxurious british vehicle with its proximity key inside and instead take an activity bracelet that unlocks it.

Now.... unless JLR fathomed a way to make sure that if the car is broken into one cannot drive away, its as dumb as my cousin leaving the keys inside.

Honestly the keypad can be pretty useful. Sometimes when my sisters visit they take the train home. Since were the end of the line the train gets in at like 1230am. So instead of having to pick my sisters up my parents just take their escape to the station in the evening lock the keys in the car and text my sister the code.

with proximity keys you can almost always keep driving if you can start it but you wont be able to restart it. My mom drove home from the airport in my dads prius years ago and he had the key with him on the plane.

Modern cars are supposed to sense the key if its inside the car and not let you lock it.

I like the little button on the door handle/sensor on the door handle. Keep key in pocket, stick hand in handle, unlock. Get out, close door, press button, lock.

Yeah, I once drove with the keyfob outside the car (was sitting on the wiper blade) and when I noticed I panicked: a lot.

But I mean to say that JLR had to figure out a way so that their active, sporty customers did not get their cars stolen in the parking lot/camp site as they were being active and sporty because the car was locked, but had the proximity key inside.

Think of it this way, break in, check for the key, turn the alarm off, and set off with a 50,000+ car.

Blue exterior (since green isn’t available, dammit), but blue exterior means blue interior! Yacht Club! Ding ding!

Hmm, the Yacht Club trim SHOULD have a ship bell or fog horn, let the peasantry know the get the f’ out of the way.

Then again, the wood trim looks lovely on the non-Yacht Club trims...

Separate hatch glass is really nice; my E46 wagon does it. But I think I’d find it less useful if the window was up as high as that. In the E46 I can easily reach the floor of the car through the open hatch window. I use it more often than the whole door, actually.

And while the keypad thing is yeah, probably 20 years old, I love it and wish more cars had it!

And why does Doug have his hands up in every video thumbnail?

I thought it was funny when he mentioned the shitty convex mirror in the overhead bin, same as my pacifica minivan, oh yeah, and that whole second row seat with a child seat... the minivan does it better. I can even leave my kid in the seat and the front seat powers up and out of the way too. Nice they have those features in a $100k Lincoln. Seriously, a $100k for a Lincoln? I guess all of us poors will just have to wait a year or two to pick one of these up for half price.... $100k my ass. But good on Lincoln for trying.

We bought my wife a gx470 for her and she’s liked it alot. Smooth as silk, plenty of luxury, great value and plenty capable for most things. Slighty bigger tires, a little armor and remove the runnings boards and it will take you safely and comfortably where you want to go.

A wrangler is for...people who like wranglers. They wheel amazing off the showroom floor and their versatility is second to none...but I don’t need the rest of the things the wrangler offers and Im not a fan generally. I harbor no ill will, they just aren’t for me. I guess I’ve never had a need for that “doors off” thing that they seem to like so much (despite the fact that all the ones I see on the trail are 4 door hardtops.)

When I was a kid it was nice because if you left somthing in the car, or were at a party and wanted to go hang out in the car to be alone you didn’t have to get the keys from your parents. My wife had a similar childhood experience with her family’s Excursion. Personally I would use it at when I go for a run or skateboarding because I hate having stuff in my pockets. When I was younger lock the car, I’d drop my keys in my car though the sunroof and then cover them with a jacket on the driver’s seat. Then when I got back I’d just jump in the car through the sunroof. The keypad is a much better solution.

But I do agree leavingyour keys in the car all the The Times is a bad idea.

Why have the keypad when you have smart key? Much easier than typing in a code; you put your hand on the handle and it unlocks the door. My RAV4 has it, and when I buy myself a car in several years, it’ll definitely need to have that.

im sure it has that too. This is in addition. It would be ideal if you were not in possession of the key but needed to get something out of it. Like if you forgot something but your wife has the keys and so you just run out, punch in the code and lock up when done without having to worry about getting them.

I have a Ford, if you have the smart key in your pocket, you can touch any of the numbers on the keypad and the doors will unlock.

If you press the bottom two keys at the same time, the car locks.
